Christantus Uche Sparks Straightforward Palace Win at Shelbourne.

Despite embarking on their first-ever continental adventure, Oliver Glasner's side are learning at a rapid pace. Missing star players like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the London club departed Dublin with a comfortable result that all but secures them a place in the Europa Conference League playoffs.

Another three points in their next fixture against Finnish KuPS should be enough to secure direct passage to the knockout stages, especially following a previous stumble against Strasbourg.

Fringe Players Grasp the Opportunity

This occasion offered a chance for some of Palace's lesser-used talent to impress. Christantus Uche, in only his second beginning since joining on loan from Getafe, opened the account with a well-taken goal. Forward Eddie Nketiah added a second, finding the net for the second game in succession.

The Shelbourne team that had finished their domestic season proved outmatched even for a largely second-string Palace lineup. The visitors were already weakened by the reports that Mateta and Muñoz are sidelined with knee problems.

Control Established from the Outset

Despite heavy rain in Dublin, Palace quickly took control. A slick move in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's incisive pass, allowed Nketiah to lay on Uche for a simple finish.

Midfielder Adam Wharton went close minutes later, fizzing a long-range effort over the bar. Nketiah subsequently claimed for a penalty after racing into the area, but the referee waved away the protests.

Ex-Arsenal striker did not have wait long to get his goal, prodding home from close range after Uche's shot had hit the post.

Shelbourne were hanging on desperately. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to escape a booking for a couple of robust challenges on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the woodwork with a powerful header from a corner.

Pino Seals the Contest

The contest was as good as over eight minutes before half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past a series of comically weak challenges before coolly slotting a shot past keeper Wessel Speel to make it 3-0.

Following the break, coach Oliver Glasner took the chance to withdraw several players like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse almost scoring his very first touch, but saw his shot blocked.

The youngster was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one attempt crash off both posts before being clasped on the line. Uche then missed a sitter of a chance, indicating there is still room for development in his game.

The only worry for Palace was a second-half injury to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This allowed 17-year-old striker Benji Casey to make his senior debut, capping an otherwise perfect night for the traveling side.
