Jair Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities determined he posed a concrete flight risk while under domestic detention.

The former head of state was sentenced of planning a military coup in last fall and given more than 27 years in jail, but he was staying under house arrest pending court reviews.

High Court Judge the presiding justice said the decision to arrest the elderly politician was a safety action after fresh information were revealed.

This included seeking to disable his ankle monitor and a call for a demonstration that could facilitate a chance to flee".

Court Filing Details Flight Fears

In a paperwork permitting the custody, Justice Moraes said data from the centre monitoring his home detention suggested the one-time head of state's plan to remove the electronic ankle bracelet to secure accomplishment in his escape.

Context of Sentencing

The former president was determined responsible of heading a scheme aimed at retaining his authority after he lost the 2022 election to his ideological adversary, Lula.

Supreme Court justices said that he had knowledge of a scheme which involved plans to assassinate Lula and his running partner, Geraldo Alckmin, and to detain and kill Justice Moraes - the top judicial official who has been presiding over Bolsonaro's trial.
